Our Story

We met, we met again a few years later, we started dating, we moved in together, we became dog parents, and now we are finally getting married.  We hope you will be able to come to our special day, and help us write the next chapter…

The story of our Wedding Crest

The motif of the Seahorses (scientific name Hippocampus, which comes from the Ancient Greek word hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster") comes from the seahorse design of the memorial fountain located in the heart of the Old Jewish Quarter (La Juderia) in Rhodes, Greece. Robert’s fathers’ family are Sephardic Jewish Rhodeslis. Symbolism of the paired seahorses are also used here to represent the many seahorse species that form strong bonded pairs which last many breeding seasons.

Robert and Christina’s love of music is represented here with the Gramophone. Music will play an important cultural role in both our wedding ceremony and reception. The silhouette of our beloved Dachshund Wally mimics the “Nipper,” in the painting “His Masters Voice” from Francis Barraud. Later used as the logo design for the Victor Talking Machine/RCA company.

Dahlias are one of Christina’s favorite flowers and represented in our wedding crest. The Dahlia is a native plant and the national flower of Mexico, Christina’s father’s birthplace. A late summer flower make it a perfect bloom to be featured on our wedding day in many glorious shades and shapes.

The Bride

Christina wanted to being a “Bride” ever since her Mother woke her up in the outskirts of Los Angeles, CA in the very early hours of July 29th 1981. Christina at age 4 watched in awe as Lady Diana Spencer emerged from her coach and walked down the cathedral aisle and into history. And so, the search for Christina’s Groom began. Turns out her Groom was in high school and growing up in Brooklyn, NY at the time. Upon moving to San Francisco Christina became involved with Congregation Emanu-El’s Young Adult Leadership Committee (YALC), and during one YALC Shabbat service met Robert…he agreed to the Groom part 12 years later, but Christina always knew he was her Basheret. Christina is currently enjoying be the “Bride,” but is looking forward to and excited to be the Wife.

Whether you know him as Robbie, Rob, Uncle Rob, Bobby, Roberto Enrique or even Henry (but never Bob), there is really only one Robert Henry Soriano.

In 1981 a few weeks before Christina was watching Princess Di’s wedding, Robert was rioting in Times Square with other punk rockers going to see the Clash concert at Bonds International Casino. Who would have then predicted that Christina’s and Robert’s paths would cross.

Robert first met Christina at Temple Emanu-El. While he seemed to get a bit of a cold shoulder, a few years later they met again at the Temple when Christina poked him in the back with her umbrella. Did he remember her? Of course he did.

When they started dating Christina’s dachshund obsession came across as a bit odd. Years later after moving in together Robert was initially reluctant to get a dog but after enough of Christina’s sweet cries of “I want a wiener”, Robert accepted. When Wally came home and helped him recover from his appendectomy, Robert was hooked into the wiener spell.

They have together built a lovely little home in their condo in San Francisco with their little Dachshund Wally and are looking forward to the next stage of life together.
