Family Friendly Museums

Visiting Golden Gate Park? Stop by one of the largest museums of natural history in the world, California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Something for kids large, small, and kids at heart. Weekends are extremely busy and often admissions and special exhibits sellout in advance. We recommend you purchase your museum tickets prior to traveling to San Francisco.

While in the park don’t forget the Japanese Tea Gardens, Conservatory of Flowers, the wild Buffalo and so much more.

At Pier 15 visit The Exploratorium, a hands-on museum for that are curious about the world around them. Even if you don’t have time to stop in, passersby’s can get an up close and personal experience of our San Francisco fog on the Fog Bridge.

If you are taking the cable card around the city, miss your stop and stay on till you end up back at the cable car barn…the Cable Car Museum. Watch huge engines and winding wheels that pull the cables. At the Westin Saint Francis, catch a Cable Car right outside.

Alcatraz

So, you want to visit the Rock? Want to visit prison without having to do hard time? Fantastic views of the bay on the ferry ride out to the island. Great audio tour. Not recommend for kids five and younger. Tour tickets can sellout months in advance, so book before your trip. Note: Alcatraz is currently undergoing restorative renovations, not all tourist areas may be open during your visit.

Pier 39

Stop by Pier 39 and visit some boisterous barking squatters. You will find a bunch California Sea Lions at all hours swimming and lounging on their own personal docks. Fun Fact: We hung out there on our first date.
